Sarnath Museum opens at 9 AM and closes at 5 PM. The timing is valid throughout the year.

The museum remains closed on Fridays.

Sarnath Museum Ticket Booking

Tickets for Sarnath Museum can be booked in advance online or purchased on the spot.

Considering that you can get ticket online for the Sarnath Museum, I recommend skipping the booking counter queue and purchase it beforehand.

The Sarnath Museum ticket costs just ₹5 per person. Pricing is the same for all nationals, Indian and foreigners alike.

You can scan the QR code, which is displayed on a board outside the Sarnath excavation site.

It basically takes you to the link below:

The purchase link seems to only work on mobile devices.

You’ll have to provide your name, ID number, phone number and email ID. You may provide a random email address if you want. Even the phone number doesn’t matter as you can save the ticket screenshot.

Please note that a combo ticket is available that allows you to visit both the Sarnath Museum and the archeological site that houses the famous Dhamek stupa. That ticket is priced at ₹20 for Indian nationals and citizens of SAARC and BIMSTEC countries. For other nationals, the ticket costs ₹250 per person.

Although there are no financial benefits to buying the combo ticket, as it costs the same if purchased separately, at least you don’t have to make the purchase twice.

The excavation site remains open even on Fridays.

While you can purchase the ticket well in advance for any day, it is valid only once. You cannot use the same ticket to enter again, even on the same day.

By the way, you should end your Sarnath trip with the light and sound show in the evening.

Enjoy Sarnath 🙂
